until 20 June
Eight hundred years of dykes, water and West Frisian life. In the Westerkerk you can see how the Omringdijk still holds us together.
The Westfriese Omringdijk has been there for some 800 years. Solid in the landscape. And solid in our daily lives. The exhibition Living with the Dike shows what these 126 kilometres of dike mean to West Friesland.
With photos, drawings, texts, objects and Deurlouper paraphernalia, the dike is given plenty of space. As a protector against the water. As a route for cyclists and walkers. And as a source of inspiration for creators, poets, singers and other wayward spirits.
The exhibition pays homage to the Westfriese Deurloupers. For 25 years, they have been putting the Omringdijk on the map. Simply under their own motto: Go!
