On 12 June at War Museum Medemblik, hear the stories behind Helmets Full of Stories. Artist Diederick Kraaijeveld, young veteran Oege Venema and project leader Amy van Son will talk about this special veterans' project.
Helms Full of Stories focuses on personal mission stories of Dutch veterans. Twenty-two artists translated those stories into art. From photography to installations. This way, the impact of peace missions becomes visible. For soldiers, their home front and anyone who will listen.
One such story is by Oege Venema. He served as an EOD driver in Afghanistan and Mali. Based on his experiences, Diederick Kraaijeveld made a Bushmaster vehicle out of old ammunition boxes. Robust work, with a solid story behind it.
Beforehand, you can join Live Cooking on original WWII field kitchens. With explanations of how Allied troops were fed on the Western Front. As a main course, 'the Blue Bite' is on the menu: an after-dinner table with history.
