From 9 July, Cinema Oostereiland will be presenting the Ghibli Summer, during which a selection of the most beloved classics from Japan’s Studio Ghibli will be shown once again on the big screen.
With this series, Cinema Oostereiland brings the magic of hand-drawn animation, imaginative worlds and timeless stories to the cinema. The series opens in style on Thursday 9 July with *Spirited Away* and a special introduction by film programmer and anime expert Marloes den Hoed. The following titles will be screened during the Ghibli Summer: *Spirited Away* (2001), *Kiki’s Delivery Service* (1989), *My Neighbour Totoro* (1988) and *Princess Mononoke* (1997).
Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation studio founded in 1985. The studio has grown to become one of the most influential animation studios in the world thanks to its hand-drawn animations, imaginative stories and strong focus on people and nature. Studio Ghibli gained worldwide fame with films such as *My Neighbour Totoro* and *Spirited Away*, the latter being the first non-English-language animated film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
