Fancy a wonderful 44.9-kilometre ride past quaint West Frisian villages? Start in picturesque Abbekerk and ride via Twisk, Westwoud and Hoogkarspel, among others, to Medemblik. Finally, follow a fantastic route past Opperdoes.

The Westfriese Omringdijk cycle route is no less than 156 kilometres long and largely follows the original course of the Westfriese Omringdijk, the oldest dyke in the Netherlands. If you pedal briskly, you can cycle it in a day. But it is also fun to make a multi-day trip of it, giving you plenty of time to visit sights along the way. The route includes Oudendijk, Ursem and Aartswoud.

A jewel of a route! This 'round IJsselmeer' leads you through a rich history of the former Zuiderzee. You cycle over large stretches of reclaimed land and hydraulic engineering works. During the 440-kilometre route, you will also pass medieval trading towns, the former island of Schokland and many fishing villages full of character. The route is divided into 8 day sections of up to 70 kilometres.

Alternate a cycling trip with a beautiful boat trip on the IJsselmeer and relax on board. Nowhere can you combine cycling and sailing as easily as in Enkhuizen. You can take your bicycle on all three ferry services departing from Enkhuizen. Whether you are passing through or want to cycle from Enkhuizen for an afternoon in Gaasterland, for example. How about cycling along the IJsselmeer to Medemblik and taking the ferry back? Or go to Urk and explore the former island by bike?
