Who is this a good site for?

For curious children, parents, grandparents, and anyone who ever looks up at the sky. It’s also great if you want to find out more about astronomy, space travel or the moon. You don’t need to be an expert.

When will you visit here?

On a clear evening, you can see the universe at its most beautiful. But there’s plenty to discover on a Sunday afternoon too. Especially in autumn and winter, when the nights are longer, the starry sky feels close at hand.

What to expect.

You’ll walk past display cases full of space artefacts, meteorites and astronomical models. In the planetarium, you’ll journey through the universe without leaving your seat. Volunteers take obvious pleasure in explaining what’s happening above your head. And if the weather’s on your side, you can look through the large telescopes at the sun, the moon or a planet.

The observatory is situated on the first floor of the Streekbos Pavilion, on the edge of the Het Streekbos recreation area. There is ample parking available on site. Admission is often free during opening hours, although a voluntary contribution is appreciated. For food and drink, there are plenty of options in the vicinity of the Streekbos.

Our tip for your visit

Before or after your visit, take a walk along the Planetenpad in the Streekbos. This will give you a sense of the enormous distances within our solar system.
