The Boezelbos is no ordinary playground. And thank goodness for that. Children climb over tree trunks, crawl through willow tunnels and play with water, sand and mud. Right in the heart of Blokweer Nature Park, close to Hoorn.

For children who’d rather wander about than sit still. For parents who don’t see mud as a problem straight away. And for families who want to play outdoors without entrance gates and plastic playground equipment.
When will you visit here?
It’s lovely on a dry spring afternoon. But it’s only really Boezelbos after the rain. That’s when the water pump works just that bit better and your wellies finally get a proper workout.

You can hear water splashing by the pump. Children clamber over logs, disappear into willow tunnels and find their way through the greenery. There are hills, sand, stepping stones and paths through the woods. It’s not a neatly manicured space. Instead, there’s room to try things out, fall over, get back up and carry on.

A quick play session can easily take an hour. With a picnic and dry socks, you’ll stay for longer. The Boezelbos is situated in Blokweer Nature Park, offering a natural and playful setting. Parking is available on Vriendschapslaan or at Westerblokker 112B, amongst other places. The entrance to the Boezelbos is next to Westerblokker 165. The grounds are naturally landscaped, with sand, hills and unpaved paths. As a result, not all areas are equally accessible. You can pop into the De Molshoop visitor centre for something to eat or drink.
Our tip for your visit
Bring a spare pair of dry socks. Not because you have to. But because you’ll be glad you did.
The Boezelbos is a lovely spot for a walk or a quiet moment in nature. You can stroll along winding paths past trees, water and open spaces. The wood is ideal for a short stroll or as a stop-off during a cycle ride through the Blokker area.
Yes, the Boezelbos is a lovely place for families. Children can play outdoors, explore nature and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Please bear in mind, however, that it is a nature reserve and not a playground.
Yes, dogs are welcome in the Boezelbos. Please do keep your dog on a lead where required and be considerate of other visitors and the natural environment.
