What to expect.
You board in Enkhuizen and set sail onto the open water. On deck, you feel the wind, hear the ropes clattering against the mast and watch the harbour grow smaller. Below deck, you’ll find yourself in the Art Deco bar area. There, you can sit down for coffee, lunch, tapas or a meal, depending on your package. A day on the water is quite the experience.
Practical information
A boat trip usually takes half a day or a full day. The official rates specify bespoke trips lasting four, six or eight hours. The Schuttevaer departs from Enkhuizen and sails to destinations including Hoorn, Volendam and the Marker Wadden. Catering is available on board, ranging from drinks and tapas to lunch and full meals. The official website does not provide clear practical information regarding parking. According to Watervakantie.nl, dogs are not permitted and wheelchair access is listed as ‘no’. Please check this in advance with Schuttevaer directly, especially if accessibility is important to you.
When are you welcome?
De Schuttevaer mainly operates on a booking basis, offering packages and scheduled sailing trips. There are therefore no regular opening hours as you would find in a café. Check the website for current trips or request a bespoke sailing trip.

Even in fine weather, do bring an extra layer. The wind blows faster across the IJsselmeer than you might think. And looking tough only helps so much.
