Ceres Mill stands firmly on Broekerhavenweg. A corn mill with a story of wind, grain and restoration. Inside, you can smell flour and wood. Outside, West Frisian determination carries on as usual.

When will you visit here?
On Wednesdays or Saturdays, when the mill is open. If there’s enough wind, you’ll see the sails turning. That really does leave a bit more of an impression than just a sign on the wall.

You step inside a working corn mill. Wood creaks, flour swirls, and above you the millstones turn. Volunteers demonstrate how grain is ground. Ceres Mill was severely damaged by fire on 31 December 2019. In 2022, the mill was officially put back into operation. A mill like that is quite something.

Allow for a short visit of about half an hour to an hour. You can stay longer if there’s plenty to see or if the miller is giving a talk. The mill is situated on Broekerhavenweg in Bovenkarspel. Parking is available nearby. The mill has stairs and narrow passages, so full accessibility cannot be guaranteed. In the mill shop, you’ll find flour and baking products, amongst other things. For coffee or lunch, Zorgbrasserie Bij de Molen is right next door.

Pick up a bag of flour from the mill shop. That way, you’ll not only take a story home with you, but also something to put in the oven.

Ceres Mill is a lovely place to pop in and have a look around. The miller explains clearly how the milling process works. You can see the machinery up close and hear the wood creaking. An interesting visit for young and old alike.
Ceres Mill is a working corn mill in Bovenkarspel. It was built here in 1849, using parts from the old Zaan oil mill, De Oude Haas. From oil to flour. Even mills sometimes change course.
The mill was originally called De Haas. In 1908, the Ceres agricultural co-operative bought it. The new owner immediately gave the mill a new name. Very practical.
Yes, the mill is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10.00 to 16.00. Visits by appointment are also possible. Inside, you can see how grain is ground using wind power. Always check the current opening hours before you set off.
