This summer, threads are being laid in Hoorn. Of fabric, of stories and of history. At Draden van ons Slavernijverleden, you will help create a monumental tapestry about the colonial and slavery past of North Holland.
Artist Raul Balai designed the 35-metre-long rug. Seven North Holland cities will each create their own section. Hoorn is working on a 5-metre by 2.5-metre rug, in which the city's history becomes visible. Not tucked away, but just straight into view.
Anyone can participate. Experience with textiles is not necessary. Walk in, learn a technique, share a story or just look around. Guides will help you on your way. Joining once is allowed. Come back more often, too.
