The Vuurtje van Leek is a small beacon on the Markermeer. Not a major landmark, but certainly a striking feature on the Zuiderdijk. Built for shipping, with a line of verse inscribed on it. A down-to-earth structure, with poetry in its paintwork.

Practical information
Allow for a short stop of ten to twenty minutes. Het Vuurtje van Leek is situated along the Zuiderdijk near Leekerhoek, south of Oosterleek. Parking is limited and the site is not equipped as a visitor attraction. If you’re coming by bike, it’s easiest to stop there. Dogs are allowed on a lead. Accessibility depends on the dyke and the ground surface. There are no food or drink facilities here.

Combine your stop with a trip along the Zuiderdijk towards Oosterleek or Medemblik. The Markermeer is also right beside you the whole way. Do check the route and the weather in advance.
