Adriaans Paradijs is situated on Koningspade in Hoogwoud. It is an artistic, cultural and historical meeting place on the grounds of the West-Frisia Museum Farm. Here, the farming life of yesteryear, modern creativity and new ideas simply come together in the same courtyard.
The place owes its name to Adriaan Donker. He was expected to become a farmer. But he had other plans. He loved collecting, travelling and bringing people together. And that eventually grew into a veritable paradise.
Adriaan Donker’s ParadiseAdriaan Donker was born in 1916 and grew up as the only son on the farm. Taking over the family farm seemed the obvious choice. But Adriaan was a free-thinker and preferred to follow his own path.
Following the death of his parents, he sold the cows and the land. On the farmyard, he cleared space for his collection, guests and parties. Young people would gather there at ‘De Hooiberg’, and the Hoogwouder Dansers were also formed here.

Art, culture and history all in one placeAdriaans Paradijs is now a meeting place for young and old alike. It provides a space for music, theatre, visual arts, crafts and other creative activities. Local talent is also given the opportunity to create, experiment and showcase their work.
The Museumboerderij West-Frisia is situated on the grounds. There, you can discover Adriaan’s collection and gain an insight into the life of an ordinary West Frisian farming family in the last century.
From curiosities to traditional craftsThroughout the year, Adriaans Paradijs organises various activities. These include a curio market, a craft day and cultural events. On such days, you can, for example, watch traditional crafts being practised, meet local talent or visit the museum farm.
And sometimes you just pop in for a coffee and a slice of currant cake. That’s fine too.
Pop in for a quick break along your routeAdriaans Paradijs and Museumboerderij West-Frisia are also ‘Rustpunt’ rest stops. Cyclists and walkers can stop off there on their journey. The Kapberg serves coffee and tea, amongst other things.
So, tired legs? Park your bike by the fence, have a coffee, and then carry on.
