The VertelTuin in Hem is a one-and-a-half hectare wild garden. Among the greenery, you listen to stories read and told. With a small Garden Theatre, an Outdoor Theatre and space to wander around.

For people who like to listen. To stories, silence and each other. Especially nice for adults who are not looking for a busy programme, but a cultural afternoon or evening in the greenery.
When will you visit here?
Stop by during a performance or open garden. On Sunday 17 May 2026, the garden will be open from 1pm to 5pm. Public performances will start from 31 May, 6 June and 7 June 2026 at set times throughout the month.
What to expect.
You walk along winding paths through a rugged, park-like garden. In the theatre, you hear stories by well-known writers. Read aloud, not rushed. Sometimes you talk along, sometimes you just listen. In the interval, there is room for tea, coffee, cakes or a walk through the greenery.

The VertelTuin works with performances and open days. The first Saturday evening of the month starts at 8pm. The first Sunday morning of the month starts at 10am. The last Sunday afternoon of the month starts at 2pm. Check the calendar for the correct date.

Put on shoes that can withstand grass and garden paths. This is not a sleek park. And that is exactly what it is meant to be.
