Camping De Gouw is situated two kilometres outside Hoogwoud. It is a peaceful campsite in the heart of the West Frisian countryside, with spacious pitches spread across various fields. Trees and hedgerows provide shelter. You won’t find any playground equipment here – just peace and space.

At the campsite, you’ll find toilet and shower facilities, a washing machine and tumble dryer, a canteen and a charging point for electric cars. There’s also a sauna with a sunbathing area. So they certainly take ‘doing nothing’ quite seriously here.
Take a canoe out onto the West Frisian watersFrom Camping De Gouw, you can set off straight away in a canoe. There are canoe routes starting at around ten kilometres, and you won’t need to portage along the way. You can paddle towards De Weere, Abbekerk, Twisk and Medemblik , amongst other destinations.

Don’t have a canoe? You can simply hire one at the campsite. Multi-day canoe trips are also an option. Pack your tent into the canoe, travel from campsite to campsite and see where you end up. That’s a holiday under your own steam.
Cycling past villages and harbour townsIt’s also a great place for cycling. Around the campsite, you can cycle through countryside and through picturesque villages such as Twisk and Kolhorn. According to the campsite, Hoorn, Enkhuizen and Medemblik are all within cycling distance.
So pack a picnic, pump up your tyres and head out there.
Sustainable campingCamping De Gouw uses 140 solar panels and a solar water heater. According to the campsite, this enables it to meet almost all its own electricity and hot water needs.
